INTRODUCTION

Soil Micromorphology is the study of undisturbed soils, sediments and other materials at the microscopic level. Since the 1930¡¯s, micropedology has been essentially dealing with soil genesis and classification. Throughout the 1960s and the 1980s, micromorphology developed rapidly and extended to many related disciplines with the advent of advanced technologies which extended the power of magnification and enabled the analysis of very small areas of particles or surface. More over, 3D and computer imaging technologies in the passed decade has made soil micromorphology a powerful, unique and crucial tool on study the relationship between structure, genesis and function of the soil and sediment bodies. And soil micromorphology has become an inter-and multi-discipline to investigate the Earth¡¯s Critical Zone, the pedosphere, and extraterrestrial soils, playing an important role in the frontiers of Pedology, Archeology, Geology, Ecology, Hydrology, Engineering Geotechnics and Environmental Sciences.

After the success of the past 12 conferences, the 13th International Conference on Soil Micromorphology (13th ICSM) is therefore an excellent occasion to bring together the latest advances in related disciplines, to provide a unique forum to present your research and to collaborate with top-experts from around the world. In addition, your conference paper will be reviewed by members of the International Scientific Committee and other colleagues and selected papers will be rapidly processed for publication in an international journal.
